A RARE DELUXE FACTORY ENGRAVED PRESENTATION .52 SHARPS MODEL 1853 SPORTING RIFLE, NO. 8423 FOR 1854 Probably the work of Gustave Young or his Shop To Alexander Walton from William Ferriday 1854 Heavy rebrowned octagonal barrel, marked R.S.L. (for Richard S. Lawrence engraved at muzzle and breech, German-silver fore-sight and simple rear sight, profusely engraved action with scrollwork, the right side with panel scene of a dog; hammer, trigger plate and lever engraved en suite, varnished walnut fore-end with pewter fore-end tip, the varnished walnut stock with silver oval plaque inset into left side and inscribed To/Alexander Walton/From/William Ferriday/1854 , patchbox engraved with scrolls and panel scene of a seated dog, buttplate engraved en suite 25½ inch (64.6cm.) barrel Barrel rebrowned with pitting evident, action with dark brown patina and some pitting, refinished wood.
