A rare early 18th-Century Irish brass equinoctial minute compass-sundial, signed on the folding shadow bar Seward DUBLIN, the silvered compass dial with finely engraved fleur-de-lys north point, the circle divided in four quadrants, the finely-made blued-iron needle with variation pointer moving over a scale divided 31°W-31°E, the horizontal circle with engraved calendar scale, the months named and divided by days (Feb=28) with scale of hours for correction of time SUN TOO FAST SUN TOO SLOW, the folding latitude arm mounted on a centre disc located by three elegant vase and pagoda-shaped fret-cut supports, the latitude arm with scale divided 0°-90° with 1° sub-divisions, the folding hour ring divided I-XII (x2), the centre with sprung tension latitude arm socket similarly located by fret-cut supports, the dial pointer alidade with rack and pinion geared minute dial, the folding pin-hole sight incorporated on a semi-circular support, dial diameter -- 6in.
