A rare George III mahogany angle barometer Unsigned, circa 1800 With an angled silvered scale calibrated from 28.25 to 31 inches divided into hundredths and annotated with MUCH RAIN, RAIN, Change, FAIR, SET FAIR predictions beneath sliding brass recording pointer to upper margin, the trunk with radial fan inlaid break-arch top over exposed tube flanked by angled veneers within cock-beaded surround and incorporating a conforming oval cartouche to centre, the base with further circular fan within quarter-veneered caddy moulded panel fronting the hinged box cistern cover over complex stepped ogee moulded underside (possibly originally with a paper scale), the trunk 90cm (35.5ins) high. Provenance: Private Collection, Hampshire (B36); purchased from David J. Hansord, Lincoln 29th September 1990 for £2,900.
