A RARE HUALI ALTAR CHEST 17TH CENTURY The chest with one long and two short drawers, each delicately carved with archaistic dragons above the shaped apron and short cabriole feet, the flat panelled top set with a pierced gallery with a high back carved with a figure seated on a qilin on a pierced cloud ground, below a yoke-shaped toprail with dragon- head terminals and flaming pearl finial, the gallery stepped and curving downwards to the sides and front, each pierced and carved with phoenix amongst flowers, lotus, peach, lingzhi and prunus panels, each with further dragon-head terminals, all surrounding a detachable lotus pod attachment, some age cracks - overall height 33 in. (84 cm.)
