Lot Description: A Rare Miser's or Stocking Purse, mid-19th century , the words "DIEU VOUS GARDE" or" God Bless You" worked in gold metal thread into a band at the rounded end, amongst other decorative bands in gold, green and red, set against a royal blue background. The straight end is worked in the same colours, and metal thread, with the addition of cream, and the gold metal thread binds the edge of the purse opening, which is fitted with two sliders embellished with gold, red and green thread. Blue silk tassels, topped with embroidered bobbles in the matching colours, are fitted at both ends. Together with A Similarly Well Executed Purse , this time in red with gold, tassels and sliders in the same vein, and A Third Purse , this time heavily worked with cut steel beads, both for the tassel, fringing and decoration on the purse, the background colours being royal blue, cream and shades of green. Shaped silver metal sliders (3) Condition Report: . The first 2 purses appear unused. The third purse has some tarnish to the beadwork and the odd bobble missing from the straight edge fringing.
