A RARE TIBETAN OR MONGOLIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF TSANGPA KARPO 18TH/19TH CENTURY Finely cast bronze sculpture depicting Tsangpa Karpo riding a horse, wearing a diadem with a conch shell, holding a sword up with his right hand, in the left holding a bowl of jewels to his breast. Remnant traces of gilding, and a sealed consecration aperture in the belly of the horse. Original base missing. 15.5cm high, 14.5cm wide PROVENANCE: Soo Tze Oriental Antiques, 2001 OTHER NOTES: Tsangpa Karpo is also known as the White Brahma, one of the protecting Dharmapalas. He is depicted as a beautiful, brave and intelligent being who can see everything in the three worlds clearly with his third wisdom eye. Sculptures of Tsangpa Karpo are rare, and in thangkas he is usually a secondary or supporting deity. He is popular in Mongolia. Estimate $8,000-12,000 Condition: Missing original base.
