Bliss Date: 1834 Description: [2], 209 pp. Illustrated with woodcut frontispiece portrait of George Hewes. 18.5x11.5 cm (7¼x4½"), bound in orange paper covered boards. The book which would make George Hewes a celebrity in his old age, contains the accounting of the buildup to the war from his perspective. Formerly in collection of 'New York Washington Library' with note to return or face a 6 cent fine hand written on the front pastedown. Lot Amendments Condition: Front joint cracked, paper worn on covers and spine with tears and small dampstains; front hinge cracked, foxing and small dampstains on endpapers, marginal foxing throughout; about very good.
