* A Roman Marble Figure circa 2nd century c.e. with later elements depicted with her right arm raised, probably formerly holding a rudder in one hand and a cornucopia in the other, seated on a later cast stone base. Height 52 x width 27 x depth 37 1/2 inches. Estimate $ 40,000-60,000 Property from the Collection of Scott Lindsay, Kansas City, Missouri Provenance: By repute, collection of Robert Gascoyne Cecil, Fifth Marquess of Salisbury Purchased by John M. Harney, St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1960s Purchased from the above by the present owner, circa 1972 Stable, complete condition with numerous restorations and some later elements throughout. Cracks or repaired breaks to the figures midsection, legs, feet and base. Proper left arm is a later replacement; neck is also a replacement. Proper left arm possibly a replacement or partially a replacement. Figure is seated on a cast stone base which is also a replacement but visible only from the back and sides. Areas of composition material and glue residue visible from the repairs in some areas. Surface dirt, scratches, abrasions, chips, small losses and weathering throughout consistent with age. By repute, figure was purchased at an English auction of property from a "Lord Salisbury's" home sometime in the 1960s by John M. Harney, a St. Louis-based designer and dealer of antiquities (Leslie Hindman Auctioneers offered other antiquities from Harney's estate in April of 2015). The figure was purchased from Harney by Scott Lindsay, its present owner, circa 1972. Exact weight not known; weight is assumed to be at least 500-1,000 pounds. Figure is currently stored on a wood shipping palette and will require the use of a forklift for loading and unloading.
