A ROTATING MOUNT WITH 91 NEAR EASTERN AND EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN BEADS AND AMULETS 5TH MILLENNIUM B.C./1ST MILLENNIUM A.D. Group one: 13 Western Asiatic mainly shell animal amulets and disks, comprising 7 miniature bulls or bulls' heads, another stylized animal, a frit disk with 8 incised concentric circles, and 4 shell rings with incised roundels for applied decoration (now missing), circa 5000-3000 B.C. 2¾ in. (7 cm.) across max. (13) Group two: 21 Roman glass amulets, including 4 spindle whorls, 6 glass aryballoi or jugs, a janiform face, a 'black' pendant head of a negro, a lion and 2 frog moulded seal pendants, 3rd Century B.C./5th Century A.D. 1 in. (2.5 cm.) high max.(21) Group three: 16 stone amulets including a lapis lazuli female bust, a green stone 'hermaphrodite' lower torso, a small female fecundity figure, 6 human heads, a bull's head, a clenched fist ( mano fico ), a foot, a green stone oval 'butterfly' bead, and a banded agate 'amphora' pendant, circa 3000-500 B.C. 1 in. (2.5 cm.) high max.(16) Group four: 21 stone amulets and beads, including a large steatite 'coiled snake' pendant, an obsidian 'fly' amulet, a lapis lazuli cowrie bead, a white stone conical stamp seal with rev. bull and lion, 3 large semi-translucent green stone 'butterfly' beads, one on a bronze suspension stick, an agate 'eye' bead, 3 agate triangular-shaped pendants, and a scallop shell pendant, circa 3000-500 B.C. 2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high max.(21) Group five: 20 faience and stone apotropaic amulets, including phalli, 2 Mycenaean 'faience' duck beads, 16th-15th Century B.C., 2 Egyptian wedjat -eyes, one in gold, the other in turquoise 'faience', 3 clenched fists, and a fly amulet, circa late 1st millennium B.C./A.D. 1¾ in.
