A ROYAL LOUIS XVI GILTWOOD FAUTEUIL The frame by Georges Jacob the carving by Rode and the gilding by Ramier The beechwood framed carved overall with twisted and pearled bands, berried laurels, entrelacs and guilloche bands, the outscrolled back with a ribbon-tied and laurel-wrapped fruited and floral cornucopia to each side of the toprail, the paterae-embellished scrolled sides and acanthus-wrapped scrolled arms above panelled and shaped arm supports, the bow-fronted seat-rail with stepped foliate frieze and the shaped sides conformingly carved, on flowerhead-hung fluted turned tapering legs with an oak leaf-moulded collar, waisted suport and egg-and-dart band, on downswept foliate turned feet, the recessed panelled front blocks to the base of the arms originally carved with the fleurs de lys but removed during the Revolution, the front-rail branded to the underside with the Comte d'Artois inventory mark and the letters 'GM' for Garde-meuble , the back-rail stamped to the underside 'G.IACOB', a gilding analysis has been carried out which reveals that this fauteuil has been regilt four times after the original gilding work by Ramier (a copy of the paint analysis is available on request) 38 in. (97 cm.) high; 28 in. (72 cm.) wide
