A ROYAL LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED AMARANTH, SYCAMORE, MAHOGANY, PARQUETRY AND MARQUETRY COMMODE By Jean-Henri Riesener The moulded, eared and breakfront Serancolin marble top above a breakfront facade with lappeted band and three frieze-drawers with scrolling foliage, the central drawer with the interlaced 'L' cypher, above two long drawers decorated sans traverse to the centre with an angled and lappeted panel with a vase with mask flanked by a basket of fruits and flowers, to each side with flowerhead-filled trellis panels and laurel-trails, above the shaped floral apron and the angles headed by a patera above a volute with husk-trails, the conforming out-swept flowerhead-filled trellis sides above foliate scrolling feet, stamped six times 'J.H.RIESENER' to the top of the carcase, the reverse and the underside of the marble top with black wash inventory number 'No 2958', the reverse and the underside of the marble top with inventory numbers 'AR242' and 'KKU838', the back further with inventory number '24', and the central drawer with an inventory label inscribed '96/44', the marble with restored breaks, the interlaced 'LS CYPHER POSSIBLY A REPLACEMENT, ALTHOUGH IT IS RECORDED IN THE 1876 HAMILTON PALACE INVENTORY 37 IN. (95 CM.) HIGH; 65 IN. (165 CM.) WIDE; 25 IN. (63 CM.) DEEP
