Thomas Pollock, a native of Londonderry, attested for the Army Service Corps and served during the Great War as a Staff Quartermaster Sergeant with Headquarters on the Western Front from 9 October 1914. For his services during the Great War he was twice Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazettes 22 June 1915 and 1 January 1916); and was awarded the Military Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; and the French Medal of Honour with crossed swords in gilt. Remaining in the Royal Army Service Corps following the cessation of hostilities, he was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, before taking up a civilian appointment as the Chief Civilian Instructor at the Army Vocational Training Centre, Aldershot, for which he was awarded the British Empire Medal in the 1938 Birthday Honours’ List. Following the outbreak of the Second World War, Pollock was granted an emergency commission as Lieutenant and Quartermaster on 25 September 1939, and was promoted War Substantive Captain on 11 November 1942. He was appointed Adjutant of the Army Catering Corps Training Centre on 21 June 1945, and retired in 1949. Sold with copied Medal Index Cards, medal roll extracts, and other research.
