Beschreibung:

A sculpted limestone garden urn-and-cover, in 18th century taste, 20th century, with a lobed finial above the cover, the body carved with a scene of classically draped maidens and amorini, a laurel leaf carved edge, waisted socle, and square section base; atop a square section panel sided plinth, 287cm high overall, the plinth 102cm high, 70cm square Bidders from the UK and outside of the European Union should be aware that additional import charges may apply This urn is in the manner of examples in the Parco Querini, Vicenza, by Orazio Marinali (1643 - 1720). Orazio Marinali was a late Baroque sculptor, active mainly in the Veneto. He trained with Josse de Corte and is known to have produced sculpture for the interior of the Church of Santa Maria in Araceli in Vicenza, but he is best known for his secular, garden sculpture. As well as statuary and ornament sculpted for the Querini Park, he and his studio created over 150 statues for the estate and gardens of the Villa Lampertico, also in Vicenza. Many are stock characters from the Commedia dell'arte theatre, whilst others depict the so-called bravi (desperadoes). He was also commissioned to produce a fine fountain group for the villa gardens, la Ruota, all his work being executed in the local Vicenza stone.
