A Sean Mac Diarmada Archive Amazing Association Copy [Mac Diarmada (Sean) Signatory of the 1916 Proclamation.] Mac Geoghegan's History of Ireland, trans. Patrick O'Kelly. Sean Mac Diarmada's copy inscribed on prelim., 'John Joseph Mc Dermott has received this valuable present from his loving sister -Miss Katie Mc Dermott, July 1st 1902' (when Mac Diarmada was 18 years old). thick 8vo, very worn & soiled lacking title, & some index pages at rear, cover almost illegible, but a wonderful association copy. As an association volume, w.a.f. * Mac Geoghan's History was valued by Republicans as a counterbalance to other Irish histories which mainly took the Protestant and Unionist point of view. It would appear this book travelled with Sean Mc Diarmada on many long and wearisome journeys during his work as an organiser for Irish freedom. Provenance: By descent through his family. This item is illustrated in the recently published biography ''Sean Mac Diarmada The Mind of the Revolution,'' by Gerard Mac Atasney, 2004.''
