A SET OF FOUR FRENCH GILTWOOD AND NEEDLEWORK FAUTEUILS THE NEEDLEWORK LOUIS XIV, EARLY 18TH CENTURY, ONE FAUTEUIL LOUIS XVI, EARLY 18TH CENTURY, THE OTHERS SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY Each with rectangular back with arched top, the toprail centred with a foliate cartouche and decorated to the angles with scrolls, the moulded uprights carved with foliage, the arms decorated with shells, husks and acanthus, the arm’ supports decorated with foliage and gadroons, the seatrail centred with a cartouche flanked by foliage and garlands of flowers on a hatched ground, the shaped foliate-wrapped feet headed by shells and terminating in scrolls, upholstered à châssis with point de Saint Cyr needlework with metal thread with shaped cartouches on a ground decorated with flowers, the backs with scenes depicting Gods, the seats with scenes probably from Aesop’s fables, the arms’ upholstery à lacé , losses to the gilding, wears and tears to the needlework 45¼ in. (115 cm.) high; 29 in. (74 cm.) wide (4)
