A SET OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY WEIGHING-SCALES LATE 18TH EARLY 19TH CENTURY With rectangular spreading shaft surmounted by a copper weight-pan above two hinged trays for holding weights, the side of the shaft with height rule calibrated in inches and feet, above a weighing platform enclosing brass mechanism, the shaft enclosing a removeable rule to enable a height measurement to be taken up to 6' 4" when standing on the platform, with a brass weight with lid stamped '32 OUNCES . BLANCE 16 STONE 224 POUNDS and enclosing three jars, the largest stamped '16 OUNCES . 8 STONE . 112 POUNDS', the next largest stamped '8 OUNCES . 4 STONE . 56 POUNDS', the smalled stamped '4 OUNCES . 2 STONE . 28 POUNDS', with lead weight stamped '2 OZ', the underside with Christie's label printed 'Furniture from St. Giles's Houses 26th June 1980', the column with quarter veneered panel probably originally with a plaque 45 in. (114 cm.) high; 13 in. (33 cm.) wide; 15 in. (38 cm.) deep
