A SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF SHOULAO ON A ROCKWORK BASE 18TH CENTURY Well carved holding a ruyi sceptre in one hand, wearing long robes finely incised with shou characters and peach branches interspersed with clouds, with foliate borders and tied with a cord hung with 'jade' ornaments, his high domed forehead and long beard finely incised with hair markings, all incising stained black, the well-polished stone of creamy ivory color with cinnabar red inclusions, the separate base of mottled reddish color carved and pierced as rocks and stained black--15 1/4in.
