A substantial Victorian pollard oak breakcentre sideboard, dentil cornice above arcaded niches and a shaped rectangular bevelled mirror with egg and ... dart moulded bezel, flanked by a pair of bow fronted doors boldly carved flowering urns and leafy scrolls within architectural arches, the projecting base with a central frieze drawer flanked by a pair of fluted drawers, above three rectangular doors carved with a foliate mask, grotesque birds and scrolling foliage, wrapped acanthus handles, divided by niches carved with shells, stop-fluted angles, plinth base, 260cm high, 233cm wide, c.1860 Provenance: Commissioned for the family home of Birmingham metal merchant Leopold Lazarus, and later acquired for the Restoration Dining Room at Sharpcliffe Hall, Ipstones, Staffordshire Read more
