A SWISS PASTE-SET AND ENAMELLED GOLD PRESENTATION SNUFF-BOX GENEVA, CIRCA 1830/40, MAKER'S MARK 'ICI' POSSIBLY FOR JOLY, CHENEVARD & JOYET, STRUCK WITH AN 18-CARAT GOLD MARK oval box with scalloped outline, the cover with paste brilliants on purple ground, centred with a gold plaque engraved with the tughra of Abdülmecid (1823-1861), Sultan of the Ottoman Empire 1839-1861, the base centred by oval reserve with scalloped border enamelled with trophies of Mathematics and Astrology on purple ground, surrounded by a wavy fluted gold and opaque white enamel border, framed by an apple-green band enamelled with flowers and foliage, the sides of the cover similarly enamelled, the sides of the base with flowers and foliage enamelled on purple ground flanked by apple-green enamel roundels decorated with flowers and vases, the interior cover with oval reserve with scalloped border enamelled with flowers and fruits on a red ground, framed with taille d'épargne band with translucent red and yellow flowers on purple ground with opaque white enamel borders 3¼ in.
