A TRANSITIONAL GILTWOOD CARTEL CLOCK/THERMOMETER AND MATCHING BAROMETER, each with oval glazed dial, the clock with both Arabic and Roman numerals and later movement stamped BORDIER H. GLP A PARIS, within a pierced milles-raies channelled lyre-shaped frame surmounted by a lion-mask and spreading beaded stem enclosing a thermometer, one thermometer inscribed Paris 1740 and with various further inscriptions, the cresting surmounted by a trophy emblematic of science upon an egg-and-dart moulded breakfront cornice flanked by pierced, scrolled acanthus and above a scrolled acanthus boss, late 18th Century 20in.
