THE BLADE DATED 1218 A.H. (FOR 1803 A.D.)
A VERY FINE BALKAN YATAGHAN WITH PARCEL-GILT SILVER MOUNTS THE BLADE DATED 1218 A.H. (FOR 1803 A.D.) With characteristic single-edged blade cut with a single narrow fuller along the grooved back-edge of each face, each face of the blade with a fine gold-damascened foliate panel, one including the maker's name 'Ibrahim', the owner's name also 'Ibrahim' and the date, the forte with applied silver-gilt panels of flowering foliage in high relief extending to a collar of fine beadwork, and hilt comprising grip-strap of silver-gilt bands of flowering foliage en suite with the forte, and dark horn eared grip-scales, in original wooden scabbard encased in parcel-gilt silver finely decorated in low relief with flowering scrollwork, and with serpent-head finial, the locket silver-gilt and decorated in high relief with bands of flowering foliage en suite with forte and grip-strap 24½in. (62.3cm.) blade
