No.1008 dated 1851 With blue octagonal sighted barrels rifled with nine grooves, signed in silver neo-gothic letters behind a flourish of silver foliage and inlaid with silver lines and bands of foliage at the breeches and muzzles, case-hardened breeches engraved with panels of scrolling foliage on a contrasting matted ground and struck with barrelsmith's mark of Léopold Bernard on the underside (Neue Støockel 1233), blued nipples,case-hardened breech tangs en suite with the breeches, blued iron back-sights, signed case-hardened locks finely engraved with scrollwork and with differing game vignettes, one involving a Labrador and the other a Pointer, ebony half-stocks carved with bold designs of scrolling foliage in relief within recessed stippled panels, the butts fluted at the ends and fitted with case-hardened caps engraved with flowers and each rising to a moulded diamond finial, finely engraved case-hardened trigger-plates and trigger-guards, the latter decorated with differing gamebird vignettes, blued triggers, and nearly all of their original finish: in original fitted case veneered in ebony, the lid with large ornate brass escutcheon pierced and engraved with flowers, brass banding with corner panels en suite , lined in red velvet, the lid interior signed in full in gilt-stamped letters, and retaining its full original complement of accessories, including signed numbered and dated engraved bullet mould, and complete with key. 15¾ i n (40cm)
