A very rare and large Meissen Böttger stoneware model of an Elephant circa 1925, numbered 10/55 modelled by Professor Max Esser the recumbent beast on a shaped pedestal with its head inclined slightly to its right, incised signature 'M.Esser 1925' to top of base incised, thrice cancelled crossed swords mark to rear of base, incised model number A.1089 and additional incised mark L.245 to underside of base, twice impressed 'BOTTGER/STEINZEUG', of which one with crossed swords mark, twice impressed numeral 23(?), the underside also inscribed 'Von 55 Ausformungen/ No.10' width: 65cm., 25 1/2 in.; height: 38cm., 15in.
