A VERY RARE GILT-METAL-MOUNTED BLUE AND WHITE OCTAGONAL EWER YUAN DYNASTY (1279-1368) The elegant ewer of octagonal section, the lozenge-shaped panels on the body decorated finely decorated in varied tones of rich cobalt blue with extensive 'heaping and piling' with sprigs of camellia, chrysanthemum and blackberry lily, lingzhi , and pomegranate each enclosed by a single line border, the remaining panels left undecorated to accommodate the gilt-metal handle emerging from a raised ruyi -head and the elegantly curved spout emerging from the open mouth of a scaly dragon chasing a 'flaming pearl' and terminating in a gilt-metal cap, flanked above and below by classic scroll and trellis pattern bands, the waisted neck encircled by bands of upright leaves and stylised lotus petal lappets containing 'flaming pearls', the lappets repeated on the lower body containing ruyi and pearls, all raised on a shallow, spreading foot of conforming outline decorated with overlapping petals, all surmounted by a domed hinged gilt metal lid 13 7/8 in.
