A VERY RARE IMPERIAL KESI TROMPE L'OEIL TWELVE-PANEL SCREEN QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) The whole woven in kesi technique as a trompe l'oeil imitation of a twelve-panel wood screen mounted with paintings, the 'wood screen' woven in three tones of brown to depict carved decoration of formalized lotus scroll medallions and sprays and angular dragon scroll borders, with openwork scroll brackets at the base of the screen reserved against a yellow ground, the 'paintings' depicting scenes of various flowers, plants and flowering or fruiting trees growing around blue garden rocks, as well as birds and butterflies, all in woven kesi with some details in black pigment, with two red pigment seals, yan nian , on the end panel woven with narcissus, nandina and wintersweet Each panel 128 3/8 in.
