A VICTORIAN GIANT ENGRAVED GILT-BRASS EIGHT DAY CHRONOMETER CARRIAGE CLOCK E.J. DENT, LONDON. NO.310. Mid 19th Century The substantial case with canted angles applied with C-scroll and scroll mounts, with recessed panels to the sides engraved with floral scrolls and trellis designs on a finely matted ground, plain rear door with sprung catch, with conforming and glazed viewing panel to the top of the case below a faceted scroll handle, the recessed silvered and engraved dial engraved with foliate scrolls and flowers and within a conforming mask signed on a reserve DENT , Roman chapter ring and subsidiary seconds disc, blued steel fleur-de-lys hands, the two-day chronometer movement with circular plates and made up to eight day duration with additional power train below, chain and fusee with Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement with cut bimetallic balance and blued steel helical balance spring, circular heat compensation weights, signed on the top plate of the chronometer movement London Inv. et Fecit No. 310 and on the back plate of the going train E.J. Dent , with drop-down glazed viewing panel showing the escapement; with black leather travel case, the lock stamped J. BRAMAH/124 PICCADILLY ; travel case key; original cruciform winding key 7 1/4 in. (19 cm.) high, handle down
