A Victorian gilt-brass eight day Westminster grande sonnerie chiming and repeating chronometer carriage clock Signed Dent, London. Third quarter 19th Century The bevel-glazed case on later sprung bun feet, with four position sonnerie selection lever to underside, engraved and silvered later dial with seconds ring at XII, bearing possibly spurious signature DENT , gilt brass hands, the three train movement with chain and fusee for going and barrels for the strike and quarter trains, maintaining power, Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement with cut bimetallic balance and blued steel helical spring with diamond endstone, with four gongs for the quarters to the back plate and a futher gong for the hours under the dial on the front plate, the back plate engraved with number 1 ; gilt-tooled brown leather travel case, later double-ended key 7 in. (18 cm.) high, handle down
