A Victorian gilt metal-mounted marquetry, line-inlaid & cross-banded writing desk Print Late 19th century, the lock stamped ''R. H. & J. Pearson / London / (Four Lever) / Safety / Lock'', in two sections, the upper section surmounted by an arched pediment over a pair of hinged doors flanked by ram's head-capped chutes and enclosing a wooden shelf, the door fronts and pediment each inset with a porcelain plaque hand painted en grisaille with a vignette of classical figures on a blue ground, over two short drawers, the outset lower section with a hinged top inlaid with a quiver of arrows and sprays of oak and laurel leaves, unfolding to reveal a silk-lined surface, over a long drawer, raised on circular fluted tapering legs joined by a curved x-form stretcher centered by an urn, overall (with writing surface folded) 59'' H x 30.5'' W x 19'' D, Provenance: Property of a Private Collection, South Pasadena, CA. Condition: Overall good condition. General marks, scratches wear commensurate with age and use. Some lifting to veneer of hinged top. Scattered minor nicks to stretchers. Three legs each lacking two-three of the small mounts on the fluted indentations, or a portion of one of these mounts. The laurel spray mounts flanking the urn are detached at the tops. A section of passementerie trim surrounding silk lining detached. No key.
