A VICTORIAN SILVER PILGRIM-FLASK MARK OF RICHARD SIBLEY LONDON, 1841, RETAILED BY MAKEPEACE, LONDON Compressed pear-shape and on spreading foot with gadrooned border, the rim and lower body with an applied band of lappeted decoration, the sides with applied female masks supporting chains to the detachable cover, engraved on one side with a coat-of-arms and on the other with a monogram and baronets badge, the foot engraved with an inscription, marked near handle, underneath and on cover, further stamped underneath 'Makepeace, London', engraved with a scratchweight '149 oz. 15 dwt' 20 in. (51 cm.) high 146 oz. 10 dwt. (4,557 gr.) The Latin inscription reads 'Emtum Pecuniis Gulielmo Heathcote de Hursley Baronetto A.B. Honoratissimo Viro Carolo Georgio Barone de Arden Socero Suo testamento legatis MDCCCXLI' which translates as 'Bought with money left to William Heathcote, Bart, of Hursley by the Right Honourable Charles George Baron Arden, his father-in-law, in his will. 1841.' The arms are those of Heathcote impaling Shirley quartering another for Sir William Heathcote 5th Bt. (1801-1881) and his second wife Selina, daughter of Evelyn Shirley, whom he married in 1841.
