Purchased 1841 BOX: three-tier with small brass recessed side handles and brass corner pieces, internal quarter-round 'Naval' strengthening pieces to the base, ivory roundel to the front with Government mark and signed E.J. MASSEY/107/2 DAYS , flat glass to bezel, brass gimbal and bowl with spring-loaded winding cover DIAL: silvered and engraved, signed E.J.Massey Liverpool/Patent No.107 and with Government mark, with 54-hour up/down and subsidiary seconds rings, hands of blued steel MOVEMENT: small plates joined by ringed pillars, top plate with Government mark, chain and fusee with maintaining power; tipsy key ESCAPEMENT: Earnshaw-type with flat strip steel spring detent, cut bimetallic balance with cylindrical heat compensation weights and polished steel helical balance spring 160 mm. square box, 90 mm. diameter dial
