A well detailed 1:12 scale wood, brass and fibreglass model of an English Well Smack of circa 1768, taken from lines in Chapman's 'Architectura Navalis Mercatoria', built by J.Clark. --59½ x 60in (151 x 152.4cm). With masts, spars, standing and running rigging with scale blocks with sheaves and full suit of stitched linen sails with rope bindings and reefing points and deck details including anchor with bound wooden stock, windlass, belaying rails and pins, bitts, hatch and grating which remove to reveal planked well hold, sampson post, bilge pump, water barrels, deck house with companionway, stove pipe, planked coach roof, rope coils, tiller and other details. The framed g.r.p. hull is finished in red and black with planked and caulked deck, green and white. Pine stand. These vessels were used to bring fish to market in as fresh a condition as possible and a wet-well amidships was adopted which kept the cargo of fish alive.
