A WOODEN GILDED AND POLYCHROME FIGURE OF PTAH-SOKAR-OSIRIS, mummiform, with gilded face, blue painted tripartite wig, the red painted body with elaborately decorated broad collar terminating on either side with a falcon-headed surmounted by a sun disc, with two central vertical columns of hieroglyphs on the front and back, the front reading "Recitation by the Mekhet wesekhet, daughter of Nes-shu-tefnut, born of the Mistress of the House, Sistrum player of Min, Neferu, for ever and ever", the back column reading "A boon-which-the-king-gives for Osiris-imenty, great god, Lord of Abydos, that he might give bread, beer, oxen, fowl, wine, irt?, unguent(?), cloth, offerings, food offerings, and all good and pure things for the Ka of ... ", a tang for insertion into the separately attached painted wooden base, the rectangular recess flanked by lotus flowers, finely detailed at the front with a feathered cartouche for Osiris-wennefer, flanked by green and black painted eyes of Horus above a basket sign, the other three sides with a continuous frieze of baskets surmounted by an ankh (life) sign flanked by was (dominion) sceptres, with red and green border, the base inscribed in black ink with a usurped name "the sma -priest Irthorirw, son of Wennefer, born of the Mistress of the House, the Sistrum Player of Min, Siamun", headdress missing, Ptolemaic, 4th-1st Century B.C., probably from Akhmim 21 1/8in. (53.6cm.) high
