A WWII group of three medals to Flight Sergeant Richard Maurice Maywood RAFVR A WWII group of three medals to Flight Sergeant Richard Maurice Maywood RAFVR, attached to the Royal Canadian Air Force with 608 Squadron, Downham, comprising France and Germany Star, Defence and War Medals, together with miniatures, Pilot's and Aircrew flying log books, service and release book, sight log book, Navigator's certificate, photographs, and a transcript of an interview with Dick Maywood in 2010 for The Bomber Command Digital Archive. Accompanying notes - RAF Service and Release book, includes Clearance Certificate, single stamped rail ticket, signed by C.O.1946,Travel Warrant still present with torn edge. Flying log book for Aircrew other than pilot, starts with certificate of qualification as Air Bomber/Air Gunner, First listing 31/12/43 to 8/2/44, training signed off by instructors, Bombing and Gunnery Courses thereafter, signed off by instructors, final entries for September 1945. Royal Canadian Airforce sight log book commences 24/4/44 and terminates 26/2/45 signed off by Squadron Leader. Royal Canadian Airforce pilot flying log book listed as acting second pilot in May and August 1943, September 43. New entries for 1975 and 76, 77, 78, 79. On initial inspection it would appear that Maywood undertook only one bombing operation against Eggebek on the 26th April 1945 with 608 Squadron, Downham Market. 70 hours and twenty minutes flying training in 1943 are recorded and signed off by the USNAS, Desford and Grosse Ile, signed off by Lt Cdr R E Vogt USNR Superintendent of Aviation Training.Mayood qualified as an Air Gunner with No.6. B&G School, Mountain View, Ontario on 14th Feb 1944. Then No 2 ANS RCA, Charlottetown, between 28.02.1944 and 14.07.1944 for navigation training, followed by UK training at 15 EFTS kingstown Carlisle, 29 EFTS at Cliffe Pypard, 1 OAFU at Wigtown and 16 OTU at Upper Heyford and Barford St John between 21.12.1944 and 19.04.1945. After single bombing raid further navigation flights between 16th May 1945 and 22nd August 1945 with 608 Sqn, and 6th September 1945 to 25th September 1945 with 692 Sqn Gransden Lodge. All signed for and some with official stamps.
