AAGE RASMUSSEN (1913-1975) DSB / CHEMINS DE FER DE L'ETAT DANOIS. 1937. 391/4x24 inches. Andreasen & Lachmann, Copenhagen. Condition A-: minor repaired tears in margins; pinholes in corners; horizontal fold. This Danish poster clearly shows how influential Cassandre was on the design of the rail poster in the 1930's. L'Etoile du Nord and the Nord Express (1927), with their dramatic use of perspective, paved the way for posters using the same visual conceit to evoke speed. Here, the perspective created by the tracks draws one's eye to the horizon from which a train approaches at full speed. The asymetric typography is organized perpendicularly to the meter that shows the speed: 120kmh. A brilliant idea to deliver the message, and one of the best images of the period. French version. Weill, p. 270 no. 469.
