Lot of 13, Including 12 Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln-related CDVs plus a memorial souvenir image. CDV portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln. M.B.Brady: Washington DC, 1862. She is shown seated in a striped gown with flowers in her hair, a corsage, and a pomander bouquet. The outfit is complemented by seed pearl jewelry. The exquisite dress was made by African American Elizabeth Keckley, and is now held at the National Museum of American History. Keckley was born into enslavement and managed to purchase her freedom and was manumitted in 1855. As well as being a master seamstress she was a shrewd businesswoman and found success in Washington. Upon Lincoln's inauguration, Keckley became Mary's personal modiste, dresser, and confidant. In 1868 Keckley wrote her memoirs. Copyright statement caption to recto. CDV from engraving. Lincoln is depicted at center with an eagle superimposed and surrounded by portraits of his cabinet in 1865: William Seward, Edward Stanton Hugh McCulloch Joseph Speed, Gideon Welles, William Dennison, Jr., and John Usher. The subjects' names and positions are inscribed to the verso. CDV of engraving. Death of President Lincoln. After Currier & Ives, 1865. Lincoln lies on his deathbed with Mary Todd and other mourners in tears. Death Bed of Lincoln. Snapshot of home of William Petersen where Lincoln was taken after he was shot at Ford's Theater. After languishing through the night, he died here the next day on April 15, 1865. The Petersen home is captured with a memorial sign reading "This House in Which Abraham Lincoln Died..." Image 4 x 6 in., mounted to 5.25 x 7.5 in. card. Informational description affixed to verso. Condition: 2 with clipped corners (Death of President Lincoln; Lincoln's Cabinet); some edgewear to caricature CDVs. Light soiling.
