It is said that this photograph was the one that made him President. Catalogued in Ostendorf [O-17]. Photographic enlargement, 13.5 x 16.5 in. (sight), of a photograph of Lincoln by Anthony Berger at the Brady Gallery in Washington, D. C. on February 9, 1864. An oval portrait adapted from the original photograph was used in the engraving for the five-dollar bill. Catalogued in Ostendorf [O-92]. Mount bears decorative label reading "Abraham Lincoln / President of the United States 1861-1865." Photographic enlargement, 13.5 x 16.5 in. Mount bears decorative label reading "Abraham Lincoln / President of the United States 1861-1865." Photographic enlargement, 13.5 x 16.5 in. (sight), of a photograph of Lincoln's Secretary of Treasury, William Pitt Fessenden (1806-1869). Mount bears decorative label reading "William Pitt Fessenden / Secretary of Treasury under Lincoln 1864-1865, / U. S. Senator 1865-1867." Lot also includes a mounted descriptive page detailing the origin of these reproductions, possibly originally produced for an exhibit where these images were displayed. It reads, in part, "The portraits in this collection were made directly from the original Brady plates by enlargement. Records indicate that these were made in Brady's National Photograph Gallery in Washington sometime after 1865. The famous Civil War scenes were made from copy negatives of original prints made by Brady."
