Woodcut title-pages, engraved dedication pages by Robert Ashby and Thomas Williamson after drawings by E.F. Burney and Thomas Tomkins, 104 hand-colored aquatints by J. Bluck J. Stadler, Hill and Sutherland after Thomas Rowlandson and A. Pugin (some light browing, very occasional offsetting to text). Later crimson straight-grain morocco, gilt-panelled, gilt edges by Bayntun (two hinges cracked). FIRST EDITION, EARLY ISSUE, bound from parts, with pre-publication watermarks, all the errata uncorrected (except for vol. I, p.218) and 5 plates of Abbey and Tooley's list in the first state, including plate 12 "those who dirts their beds will be punished." "If this plate in this state really exists, it is very rare" (Abbey p.139). Abbey Scenery 212; Tooley 7. A VERY FINE SET. (3)
