Lot of twelve, includes: A patriotic cover featuring Uncle Sam chasing a Spaniard out of Cuba, postmarked Knoxville, TN, September 13, 1898. A notebook with lithographed cover, published by the New York Blank Book Company and copyrighted by C. H. Gaston, 1898. Inscription on interior cover reads, "In Memory of the Spanish American War in the year of 1898." Notebook contains manuscript poems about the war. A needle kit with both covers honoring Spanish-American War heroes including Admiral George Dewey, Theodore Roosevelt, William McKinley and others, along with Dewey's flagship, the USS Olympia. A publication of The Bounding Billow. Manila, Philippine Islands, June, 1898. Vol. I, No. 5. 16pp. 5.9 x 8.7 in. Heading under title reads, "Published in the Interests of American Men-O'-Warsmen." The Bounding Billow was an important publication providing details of the Spanish-American War as it was experienced, being published aboard the USS Olympia from 1897-1898. A copy of Greater America. New York: F. Tennyson Neely, 1898. Book features views of Cuba and military camps from the collection of novelist and war correspondent, Gilson Willets. A silk embroidery, 19.5 x 19 in., commemorating the "War With Spain, April 21st, August 12, 1898," and featuring a stitched representation of crossed American and Cuban flags. A cotton kerchief, 23 x 22.25 in., featuring an American flag and a Cuban flag crossed at the center, with a blue field filled with white stars outlined in a decorative border. A silk kerchief, 15.75 x 16 in., with patriotic illustration and text, in part reading, "In Memoriam To Our Shipmates, Officers And Men Who Were Killed By An Explosion On The U.S.S. Missouri, April 13th, 1904, Pensacola, Fla." Copyrighted at lower right by M. Vogel of Brooklyn, New York, 1904. Silk Pan-American Exposition flag, 20.5 x 12.5 in. featuring a golden eagle with rising sun symbol above, and banner reading "PAX 1901" at center, with blue corner featuring one white star at center and opposite red corner featuring four white stars at center. This flag was designed by Adelaid J. Thorpe, the Assistant Director of Interior Decoration for the buildings at the Pan-American Exposition. Thorpe designed this flag as part of a contest, in which the winner's design would become the official flag of the Exposition. Winning in 1901, Thorpe received a $100 cash prize, and the pride of seeing her design on manufactured promotional materials, souvenir miniatures, and hundreds of flagpoles throughout the Exposition. A commemorative tapestry, 57.25 x 47.5 in., with a large portrait of Admiral George Dewey at center, and American flags and roses at corners. Tapestry quite worn, with some holes and fabric loss especially on reverse side and at edges. A Spanish-American War commemorative fan featuring portraits of heroes from the war on flower-form mounts, including Admiral George Dewey, William McKinley Russel Alexander Alger, and others. A mixed metal anchor with attached wall hook, wd. 4 in. x ht. 5.75 in. x dp. 2 in. Anchor reads "Dewey" across the stock, "May 1st" along the shank, and "1898" along the crown.
