Neilson on verso. Reverend Henry Ward Beecher, brother of Harriet Beecher Stow, was one of the most recognized and charismatic preachers of antebellum America. In 1872, an article was printed revealing an affair Beecher had with his friend Theodore Tilton's wife. As this became a highly publicized scandal, Tilton took Beecher to court in 1875. After six month trial, the jury could not come to an agreement and Beecher was acquitted. Condition: Excellent.
