Alessandro Mendini for Venini, an Arado glass vase, the tapering waisted body with multi-coloured canes, incised mark and dated '88, 38.7cm high Alessandro Mendini born in Milan in 1931 played a central role in the development of contemporary Italian design. As publisher of various design Magazines including Casabella (1970-76), Mod and Domus (1979-85), the Italian designer was for many years considered the theoretician of Italian avant-garde design and an important trend setter. His work is exemplary of the cross over between art, architecture and design. Mendini started a collaboration with Venini & Co, one of the leading figures in the production of Murano glass and important contributors to twentieth century design, in 1987. The vase above was one of his first designs with the world renowned glass manufacture. Condition report disclaimer
