ALFRED JUSTITZ (1879–1934) Toilette Starting price: 350 000 CZK (13 208 EUR) Hammer price: 350 000 CZK (13 208 EUR) Description dimensions: 46 x 38 cm (h x w) period: 1931, Bohemia A female nude showing a young woman at her toilette is an example of Justitz's late work, which is considered the most valuable in terms of artistry. The painting was made in 1931, one year before the artist became seriously ill and stopped working. Toilette is a synthesis of several movements and influences that can be seen in the artist's work. The Neoclassical theme of a nude with drapery is interpreted with purely modern forms of expression. The focus is on the volume and field of color. Justitz made use of his understanding of French modern art, the works of Cézanne and Derain, and Fauvist principles. Oil on canvas, signed and dated on bottom right "1931. Exhibition stamp on back: Mánes.
