Passionnée par l’Asie elle y vit une grande partie de sa vie, maîtrisant à la perfection les techniques de la laque et de la peinture sur soie. Dans cette oeuvre, Alix Aymé représente deux enfants pensifs, absorbés par un jeu ou un livre. Une troisième silhouette tout juste ébauchée se détache d’un fond laissé en réserve. Les enfants ainsi que leurs occupations et leurs habitudes sont au centre de son oeuvre, grâce à une technique virtuose du dessin et de l’aquarelle, l’artiste parvient à saisir ces moments fugaces et tendres de l’enfance. Alix Aymé déploie tout son talent de portraitiste dans cette oeuvre car elle réussit à faire entrer le spectateur dans l’intimité et l’imaginaire de ces deux enfants concentrés. Alix Aymé was an iconic figure in the cultural and artistic exchanges between Indochina and France. Fascinated by Asia, she lived there for a large part of her life, mastering the techniques of lacquering and painting on silk to perfection. In this work, Aymé shows two pensive children absorbed in playing or reading. A third barely outlined figure stands out against a background left in reserve. Children and their activities and habits were central to her work, and the artist brilliantly captured these tender, fleeting moments of childhood through her virtuosic drawing and watercolour skills. Alix Aymé makes use of her considerable talent as a portraitist in this piece, drawing the viewer into the intimate world and imagination of these highly focused children.
