Octavo (218 x 153 mm). 10 mounted photogravures. Original cloth-backed boards, lettered in black on front cover and spine, uncut, text leaves unopened (rear joint splitting, some chipping to spine ends); black cloth folding case. Provenance : Martin Secker, London publisher (presentation inscription from Coburn on the front free endpaper) -- Cyril Connolly -- Cecil Beaton (provenance inscriptions). FIRST PRIVATELY PRINTED EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY COBURN TO THE PUBLISHER MARTIN SECKER: "To Martin Secker with best wishes from Alvin Langdon Coburn 3 XII '14." Tipped-in to the front pastedown is a letter from Coburn, Nov. 7, 1907, to Mr. Richards, most likely the publisher Grant Richards, expressing his regret at Richards' decision not to publish the London book. A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY. Coburn stated that "in my hands photogravure produced results which can be considered as 'original prints', and which I would not hesitate to sign" ( Alvin Langdon Coburn An Autobiography , pp. 74-75).
