An extremely early letter of this remarkable frontier figure, who established close treaty relationships with the Iroquois and other native tribes. Autograph manuscript notes for a sermon, n.p., n.d. 16 full pp., (148 x 94mm.), very closely written in a minute, but clear hand, apparently removed from a binding. Extensive notes for a sermon by the first Librarian of Harvard College, noted for stern opposition to "long hair, wigs, extravagance in dress, and excessive drinking" (DAB). -- HARPUR, Robert (1731?-1825), educator . Autograph letter signed ("Rob. Harper", with flourish), to Taber Kemp, King's College [New York], 15 May 1765. 1 p., small 4to, neatly inlaid. Harpur, President of King's (later Columbia) College and a delegate to the Continental Congress, reports that the Council have approved a grant; Kemp is asked to perfect "such instruments as are necessary on your part, in as short a time as possible." -- HAMILTON, John, British soldier stationed in North America . Autograph letter signed ("J. Hamilton") as Captain, to William Adair Placentia [Newfoundland], 21 August 1759. 4 full pages, 4to. Fine. Regretting news of the death of Maj.-Gen. Hopson and "the prospect of [Adair] being no longer Agent," requesting for his son Adair's assistance "in the disposal of His Commission," and discussing allowances for firewood, "Great Coats," and forage.
