Discussing financial matters relating to the administration of the late Captain Breckstede's estate and advising that "the effects if prudently managed leave a surplus after paying all the Debts..." Transcription of a letter from Joseph Brant to an unidentified correspondent, Niagara, 4 September 1799. 2½ pp., folio. The prolific historian transcribes a letter from Brant to a governor of New York. In the letter, Brant discusses the topic of "land business of the Caghnawagas, who for some years past have accused us of having stolen their lands..." The Caghnawagas were misinformed by New York officials that Livingston had purchased land from the Five Nations; Brant knows no money was ever received and appeals to the governor as he was involved in the transaction. -- [BRANT]. Excellent war-date letter on the outfitting of Brant's party of thirty men for Niagara and accounts of Col.
