Property from the Eric C. Caren Collection(AMERICAN REVOLUTION)At a General Assembly of the Governor and Company of the State of Connecticut, holden at Hartford, on the second Thursday of October, A. D. 1780. [Hartford: Hudson and Goodwin, 1780] Printed broadside (12 1/3 X 8 1/8 in.; 326 x 208 mm), on blue-gray laid paper, signed in type by George Wyllys; some staining, worn with some marginal tears and chips, some fold separations with tiny loss. The consignor has independently obtained a letter of authenticity from PSA that will accompany the lot. A Revolutionary War recruiting broadside. The present directive offers detailed instructions for the methods of application of the order that the towns of Connecticut should fill their recruitment quota for the Continental Army. George Wyllys was son of Hezekiah Wyllys, and held several public offices, including town clerk of Hartford (1732-1796), officer of the militia, secretary of the Colony of Connecticut and of the State of Connecticut (1735 to 1795). In this latter position, Wyllys served on numerous committees on Indian affairs. REFERENCE:Bristol B5063; Evans 16741
