AMMANATI, Bartolommeo (1511-1592). Two autograph letters signed, three letters signed (2 including 3 lines in autograph), one letter written and signed on his behalf, with two letters written and signed by his agent Benedetto Giramonte, seven to Francesco Busini and one to Giovanni Caccini Provveditori in Pisa, Florence 2 June 1565 - 28 September 1566 , mostly concerning the shipping and cartage of stones from the quarries but including various other payments, altogether 6 pages, sizes 285 x 215mm - 295 x 225mm , 5 with integral address leaves and cut to provide seal strips, 3 with address panels, all with contemporary endorsements, 6 with traces of seals. These letters relate to various projects, payments and supplies. The letter of 2 March 1566(n.s.) from Benedetto Giramonte, Ammanati's secretary and agent, to Francesco Busini makes clear the number of enterprises that the Medici had in train at that time, and the organisational complexities that this entailed. Giramonte explains to Busini the system agreed with Raffaello [Carli] 'capomastro' at Serravezza for identifying the final destination of the quarried stone: 'che a marmi che servano qui a pitti li segni P i , e queli della colona C a , e della fontana F a , e queli delopera di santa Maria del fiore O a , e per il palazzo di S.E.I di piaza P o , e quelli che anderanno a magistrati M i '. Amongst other payments to be settled, in Giramonte's letter of 6 August 1565 he asks for payment to Laura Battiferri, the renowned poet and wife of Ammanati. (8)
