AN ANGLO-INDIAN IVORY AND HORN GAMES BOARD AND CHESS SET VIZAGAPATAM, MID-19TH CENTURY The games board modelled as a folded book, with shellac foliate decorated borders and spine, sandalwood interior inlaid for backgammon, fitted with three conforming boxes; the ivory and horn chess set with kings and queens with pierced crowns, the rooks as unusually broad turrets; with thirty-two ivory and horn draughts counters, shakers and dice IMPORTANT NOTICE ON LOTS CONTAINING IVORY: The USA has recently changed its policy on the import of property containing elephant ivory. Only Asian Elephant ivory may be imported into the USA, and imports must be accompanied by DNA analysis and confirmation the object is more than 100 years old. Buyers will be responsible for the costs of obtaining any DNA analysis or other report required in connection with their proposed import into the USA. A buyer’s inability to export or import a lot is not a basis for cancelling their purchase. The board -- 18 ½ in. (47 cm.) wide; the chess set: the king -- 5 ¼ in. (13.5 cm) high; the pawn -- 2 ¾ in.
