An archaic bronze ritual food vessel (gui) Late Shang / Early Western Zhou Dynasty, 12th / 11th Century BC the bombé sides cast with large taotie masks bearing C-scroll 'ears' and slit boss eyes, centrally divided by a low flange reserved against a plain ground, between loop handles issuing from bovine masks and terminating with pendant tabs, all supported on a pedestal foot cast with four pairs of confronting gui dragons divided by low flanges, the gun-metal patina with patches of light malachite encrustation 10 in., 25.5 cm
