An Arts and Crafts gem set oval pendant, in the manner of Arthur and Georgina Gaskin, with a central foiled cabochon sapphire, on a leaf wirework and flower ground with foiled emeralds and pink tourmalines, half pearls and rose cut diamonds, with an emerald pendant (later brooch pin and safety chain with pin) Arthur Gaskin (1862-1928) and his wife Georgie (1868-1934) were leading Arts and Crafts metalworkers, enamellists and teachers. Arthur studied at the Birmingham School of Art where he later taught. Married in 1894: both he and his wife were involved in the Birmingham group of painters and designers as well as being close associates of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Incorporating distinctive spirals with simple cut-out leaves and flowers embellished with pastel coloured stones: their pieces were seldom marked
